    Emperors and Beijing Duck

Our fascinating tour of China takes in the highlights of Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai. We start in Beijing, with a stop at Tiananmen Square and a visit to the Temple of Heaven and the Forbidden City where the Emperors lived. On one evening we will attend a spectacular Chinese Acrobatic Show.

    The Great Wall

We visit the Great Wall near Beijing and explore a short section of the 600-mile construction that once defended China from barbarian invaders. There will also be opportunities to shop for souvenirs of all kinds including Chinese scrolls, ceramics, Chinese tea and clothes.

A Taste of Heaven and the Summer Palace

We will attend church at Beijing International Fellowship, worshipping with hundreds of people from all around the world – a taste of heaven! A visit to the Summer Palace takes us to the former home of the last Empress of China. Stroll along the world's longest covered walkway and take a cruise across the lake.

Exploring Xi’an and the Terracotta Warriors

Taking the overnight train to Xi’an, we then have three days to discover highlights of this ancient city. We take a walk or cycle along the city wall that was built in the Ming dynasty on the foundations of the former Tang dynasty imperial city. Visits include the Museum of Steles, the Big Goose Pagoda, the Bell Tower in the city centre and the Muslim quarter, with its Great Mosque and stalls of knick-knacks. Heading out east on one day, we see the Terracotta Warriors, built by Emperor Qin, supposedly to guard him in the afterlife.

    Shanghai river cruise

An overnight train to Shanghai brings us to our third city. We enjoy a river cruise, taking in views of the old and new parts of the city, the 1930s colonial buildings on one side and the soaring skyscrapers on the other. We also go up the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and enjoy the street scenes of the Shanghai History Museum.

    Sunday in Shanghai

On Sunday, we have the opportunity to share in worship at Shanghai International Fellowship. Following dinner at a local restaurant we return to our hotel for our daily evening meeting, including a time of singing and a helpful Bible talk.

The Jade Garden and browsing the bargains

We visit the Yu Yuan area to explore the Jade Garden and a last chance to browse the gift shops. Finally, we fly home from Shanghai's impressive new airport.
