    A delightful country

Portugal has a fascinating mix of the old, rural culture and modern life. The Atlantic coast is beautiful, with lush foliage, tropical flowers and plenty of sunshine. The Portuguese are welcoming and hospitable. Costs in the cafés are low - your money goes a long way! We avoid the modern, purpose-built tourist ghettos of the Algarve. Instead we enjoy Portugal at its traditional best.

Three-star hotel with air conditioning and swimming pool

Facing the sea, we stay in a three-star hotel in Buarcos. This peaceful village is away from the tourist traps, along the coast from the town of Figueira da Foz. The en-suite rooms are for two, all with air conditioning. The hotel also has both indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

Plenty of time to enjoy the area

There will be plenty to see and do as our optional excursion package takes us to explore the villages, towns, castles and many places of historical interest. In the cafés, enjoy the special, milky coffee and rich custard cakes. The sun, sea and fresh air will be an extra bonus.

The quaint fishing town of Nazaré

Nazaré is a fishing town nestled at the foot of steep cliffs. The fishermen’s wives dry fish on racks and sell nuts and fruit along the seafront. The town is in two parts - down by the sea and up on the cliffs with stunning views. A funicular railway runs between the two. A stroll along the narrow and quaint streets takes you past fishermen’s houses, cafés, restaurants, churches and shops crammed with inviting wares.

Explore the historic city of Porto

The second largest city in Portugal has been settled since Roman times. The narrow and steep lanes are listed sites of World Heritage that wind their way down to the medieval waterfront. There is much to see from the interesting shops through the museums and galleries to the amazing bridges on the river. You can also choose to relax in one of the many cafés.

Enjoy surfing from the sandy beaches

Try some surfing and boarding fun for yourself! The local surf school, on the other side of Figueira da Foz, can be reached by bus or taxi and offers instruction and equipment hire.

After a day of relaxation, activity or exploration we enjoy a meal together in the hotel restaurant and an interesting Bible talk.
