A remarkable island to explore
We have an exciting opportunity to visit the beautiful island of Sicily. The natural beauty of Sicily is seen in an amazing range of landscapes, from the striking features of Mount Etna to the sandy beaches and clear blue seas. After visiting the island, the writer Goethe claimed that ‘to have seen Italy without seeing Sicily, is not to have seen Italy at all’.
Our hotel in a superb location
We stay in the attractive coastal town of Giardini Naxos, which has a range of shops and cafés. The stunning town of Taormina, straddling the mountain, can also be reached with a short bus ride. Our four-star hotel is in an excellent location, right by the sandy beach and close to the shops and cafés. It offers en-suite rooms for two with air-conditioning. Each evening we will have an opportunity to meet together for a helpful Bible talk.
An exciting range of excursions
Our optional package of excursions explores the different aspects that make Sicily so appealing. We visit the Aeolian island of Lipari, off the north coast of Sicily. There is the small, main town to explore, with its picturesque harbour and attractive houses. Alternatively, you can visit the cliff-top citadel with its interesting museum or snorkel in the crystal clear waters.
The striking landscape of Mount Etna
Arguably the most impressive feature of Sicily is Mount Etna, the highest live volcano in Europe at 3350m. Parts of the area have been preserved for wildlife to flourish, while others are accessible to visitors, giving us the chance to explore the interesting volcanic landscape and craters.
An ancient city with much to see
Our optional excursion package also includes a visit to Syracuse, a city that rivalled Athens for prestige and power in the ancient world. Intriguing remnants of this period can be found throughout the city, including the Neapolis Park with its impressive Greek Theatre, carved out of the rock. On the atmospheric island of Ortigia you can wander through the winding streets, explore the shops, or relax in an Italian café.
