An exciting adventure amongst the Karen tribe
Thailand is a country of tropical forests and agriculturally rich plains. We have two weeks sharing with the beautiful Karen tribe, experiencing their bright smiles and colourful clothes. With every opportunity they will want to sing to us, leaving us in no doubt that we are very welcome.
Exploring an exotically beautiful world
Our adventure begins as we fly into Chiang Mai with its modern shops and thriving night market. We explore the impressive mountain scenery, which is wild and, until a hundred years ago, was virtually inaccessible to outsiders. The whole area has a distinct flavour of its own with a variety of hill tribes, wooden houses on stilts, traditional costumes, and a profusion of wild orchids. We ride an elephant through the jungle and bamboo rafts take us sweeping along with the river amongst the exotic scenery.
Along jungle tracks and wide rivers
We drive along jungle tracks that are unexplored by tourists. High-powered motor launches take us for a long dash up the river, which forms the border between Burma and Thailand. We share meals sitting under the shade of bamboo village houses on stilts. Every day will be an adventure.
Sharing with refugees from Burma
Thousands of people from the Karen tribe have fled across the border into Thailand and are now restricted to refugee camps. We will be visiting them and will be welcomed as usual by their music and singing. We will also visit those who are helping the children that have lost their parents and have been brought across the border from Burma. It will be heart-warming to see how God is bringing hope to a broken people.
Through the mountains to share God’s love
At Mae Sariang, after a beautiful 3-hour drive through the mountains, we will be visiting the Chrestos Bible School. In this exotic location we link with Dr Geoffrey and Pat Atkinson who are serving the Karen tribe. Following the success of the Oak Hall Bible School in Belgrade we have helped to establish a new Bible school in Thailand for Karen Christians, which has generated great enthusiasm. At Umpium there are magnificent waterfalls, which demonstrate the magnificence of our Creator contrasting with the tragedies caused by man’s rebellion against Him.
A special, life-changing expedition to Asia
We will be staying in hotels and hostels. We dine out in the Bible school and in Thai restaurants, enjoying tasty meals to complete our days of exploration amongst breathtaking mountain scenery. It will be a memorable and life-changing Taste of Mission as we visit the peoples of Thailand and Burma. |
