Soaring mountain peaks in Austria

The Austrian Tirol is a land of beautiful scenery, with rushing streams and small villages nestling at the foot of mighty mountains. We stay in a friendly three-star hotel in Schlitters in the heart of this wonderful region. It is a family-run hotel - we know them well and they do all they can to provide a wonderful holiday for us.

We enjoy tasty, nourishing meals

The hotel provides a buffet breakfast, with a wide choice of appetising food that prepares us well for the day ahead. All we need is provided so we can make a packed lunch to take with us for the day's excursions. In the evening, there is a buffet with a tasty selection that changes every night.

Exploring the beautiful Zillertal valley

An attractive narrow gauge railway runs along the Zillertal valley through impressive Alpine scenery. It takes you to places of interest, such as Mayrhofen, with its wide range of shops and facilities, including a large swimming pool with water slides. Cable cars whisk you up the mountain to enjoy stunning views and interesting walks.

The stunning Krimml waterfalls

Our optional excursion package takes us to the spectacular Krimml Waterfalls. Split across three tiers and surrounded by attractive forest, the water crashes from a height of 380m. The water bouncing off the rocks as it tumbles down creates an amazing natural display.

The medieval town of Rattenberg

As you enter through the town gate of Rattenberg, you can imagine yourself back in the Middle Ages. In the quaint, cobbled streets the picturesque cafés serve superb coffee and irresistible apfelstrudel with cream.

Salzburg and the Sound of Music

Visit one of Europe’s most admired cities, Salzburg, where graceful architecture is set in magnificent scenery as the Alps meet the lowlands. Salzburg has a great musical heritage, having been home to both Mozart and the Sound of Music. Visit the Mozarteum, re-enact your favourite scenes from the Sound of Music or sit in a café amongst the narrow medieval streets and arcaded courtyards of the Old Town.

The beautiful Lake Achensee

Our optional excursion package also includes a visit to lake Achensee. Under the towering mountain peaks, this beautiful natural location offers the opportunity to walk in the fresh alpine air, hire a boat to take out on the water or enjoy a hot chocolate by the lakeside.

The Medieval Streets of Innsbruck

The City of Innsbruck is famous as host to a winter Olympics and capital of the Tirolean region. Visit the Altstadt city centre and the building of the Goldeness Dachl (Golden Roof), which once served as a vantage point for spectators during medieval tournaments.  A stroll down the Maria-Thereisen-Strasse will enable you to savour the panorama of the mountain ranges stretching out beyond the city.

Many interesting local activities

If you want to be active, a wide range of appealing walks are on offer, while activities such as tubing and rafting can be arranged. The next-door village of Fugen has a new thermal spring centre and outdoor pool, with a 133m slide and wave pool.

Our holidays in Austria involve no overnight travel. For those touring with us by coach we travel through France, where we stay overnight in a hotel. The next day we drive through Switzerland to reach the beautiful Alps in the Austrian Tirol. Please see below for details of flight options, including airport transfers.
