The colours and cultures of an amazing land…

More than almost any other country in the world, India is a diverse land of contrasts. At every turn there are intriguing sights, sounds and scents that flood the senses of the visitor.

A country with an amazing cultural heritage

Over thousands of years India has been ruled by different civilisations. This has produced a country with an amazing cultural variety, along with many striking symbols of its history. Across the country attractive railway journeys link beautiful natural scenery with the vibrant cities, where impressive buildings from colonial times jostle with modern industry. The bustling markets sell a vast array of brightly coloured spices, clothing and much more besides.

A tour exploring the highlights of Southern India

Our interest-packed tour will take us across Southern India. As we land in Bengaluru (Bangalore) we will be immediately aware of the dynamic vibrancy of India as we head from the airport into this bustling city. We will be linking with a team in Bangalore that are from the UK but have been based in India for many years. They know Oak Hall well and are looking forward to showing us the highlights of Southern India.

Stunning palaces and elephant rides

Mysore is home to the Maharaja’s palace, one of the most impressive royal buildings in India. Built in the early 1900s, it is a building of bright colours, mosaic floors, mirrors, royal wardrobes and armouries. At Tepakaddu, there will be an opportunity to experience an unusual form of transport - riding an elephant! During our tour, we will also be able to visit projects working with the local communities and see a different aspect of Indian life. At Kollegal, for example there is a home for girls from destitute homes and a High School with over 800 children.

Attractive railway journeys and temples

One of the best ways to view India is by train. At Ooty, the miniature train winds it way through stunning scenery, passing tea plantations and waterfalls. The famous Backwaters of Kerala, a beautiful area of canals and lakes, are an ideal place to relax.

Madurai is best known for the Sri Meenakshi temple, arguably the most impressive temple in Southern India. Our tour also takes us on up the eastern coast to Pondicherry, a former French colony where French still spoken to this day, and the ancient city of Chennai (Madras) with its markets and beach.

Flexibility is the key to appreciating the best of India. Everything is dynamic and often unpredictable – come expecting the unexpected!

Join us for an amazing opportunity to explore this land of intrigue and contrasts.
