Sweden is a country of wide-open spaces, fresh air, clean water and pristine nature. Visitors travel from all over the world to savour this beautiful and “unspoilt” land.
A natural treat The rocky coastline of Sweden is dotted with thousands of small islands, some green and large, others small, craggy and barren. For nature lovers, the wildlife, sea birds and sea life are a treat.
Our accommodation is located on a small island called Stenungson, just off the Swedish mainland. It is built in an attractive, traditional Swedish style and it is set in a beautiful wooded area where you can see red squirrels and deer.
Cycling through the beautiful landscape
Our cycle rides set out from our accommodation to explore the surrounding islands and interesting mainland villages and towns. The roads and country lanes are quiet and there are some excellent views as we cross the bridges or take the ferry between the islands.
Swedish cooking: distinctive flavours and delicacies Originating in the forest glades, mountains, cold water and the pure soil, the flavours of Sweden are distinctive and appreciated worldwide. There will be the opportunity to try local delicacies and traditional Swedish dishes.
A range of routes and cycle groups Our carefully selected routes gradually increase in length. The first ride will be around 15 miles and the longest ride around 35 miles. Everyone will explore the same areas, but split into at least two groups to allow people to cycle at a speed with which they feel more comfortable. This makes the holiday ideal for everyone looking for an active and refreshing break.
All the rides are of course optional but by building up the length of the rides through the week, the groups build up their fitness and you may well be surprised to find how far you can cycle!
Returning to our centre refreshed and invigorated Following a day cycling through unique and dramatic Swedish scenery with its lakes, trees and rivers, we return to our mountain centre style accommodation feeling a warm glow. As with every Oak Hall Expedition, each evening will include a helpful Bible talk.
