Schladming will host the World Ski Championships in 2013.  The superb Alpine terrain provides a huge variety of pistes for all to enjoy on some of Austria’s best slopes. A stay in Haus provides the ideal base to enjoy the best of the massive Ski Amadé area lying at the foot of Hauser Kaibling with great access to the three adjacent mountain areas.   Apart from the four lift-connected mountains that form the main 4-Hills Ski Area there are several smaller areas, as well as Dachstein glacier. While the highest elevations are Hoher Dachstein 2996m and Dachstein glacier 2700m, the summits of the four main ski mountains are between 1850m and 2015m with a kilometre or more of ski vertical down to the valley floor.   A single lift ticket covers not only 109 ski lifts in Dachstein-Tauern but a total of 276 ski lifts throughout the five different ski regions that make up the vast amadé ski alliance which includes Dachstein Tauern and four other ski regions with 30 cable cars/gondolas, 74 chairs and 172 surface lifts serving 860km (537 miles) of runs.  The regional lift system includes 1 cable car, 8 gondolas, 25 chairlifts and 57 drag lifts.   STUNNING GONDOLA RIDE TO 6,142 FEET Each morning, we have the option to walk the few hundred feet to the Hauser Kaibling gondola station that takes us up to over 6,000 feet. We usually take a local bus across to Reiteralm on the first two mornings as it offers more suitable beginner areas, while the more experienced have the adventure of tackling all four interlinked mountains back to Haus to our front door. THE IMPRESSIVE DACHSTEIN GLACIER The extensive Ski Amadé area provides an essential snow guarantee with widespread snowmaking facilities and the mighty Dachstein Glacier. The Glacier ensures great year-round conditions for exhilarating snow sports with exceptional views over the Styrian province of Austria towards Salzburg.  On the first 2 days of the trip you will take a bus to the fourth mountain from the resort – Reiteralm – it is possible for advanced skiers to ski right back to the accommodation from here. THE COMFORTABLE FAMILY-RUN PENSION ENNSTAL We are delighted to be able to offer accommodation right at the foot of the slopes across the season. Here we relax and enjoy the comfort of Pension Ennstal, run by the Hofer family, surrounded by the beautiful Dachstein-Tauern peaks.  This accommodation is very popular with guests due to its friendly, warm and welcoming atmosphere.   After an energetic day’s action, we enjoy the inviting 3 course meals served to us by the friendly staff, and benefit from the comfortable en-suite rooms with standard rooms for 3 or 4. These use bunk or Austrian-style beds (one frame with separate mattresses and duvets). The Pension also has a number of double and twin rooms for married couples, and single rooms (see booking section for suppliments). The cost includes all meals after arrival.   The Pension Ennstal also boasts an exclusive café open after a day on the slopes and in the evening for refreshments.  Here guests are able to purchase some of Tonys legendary hot chocolate, while listening to him spin an Austrian yarn or two!
