Explore a unique island

We have an exciting opportunity to visit the beautiful island of Sicily. The natural wonder of Sicily is seen in a variety of landscapes, from the striking features of Mount Etna to the sandy beaches and clear blue seas.

We stay in the coastal town of Letojanni, which has a range of shops and cafés. Our three-star hotel is in an excellent location, next to the beach. Taormina is easily accessible, a town which straddles the mountain and looks down onto two attractive bays below. It is full of interesting little squares and narrow alleys to explore.

An exciting range of excursions

Our optional package of three excursions explores the different aspects of the island that make Sicily so appealing. We visit the Aeolian islands, Mount Etna and Syracuse with Noto.

Cruising to the islands

On the Aeolian island of Lipari, off the north coast of Sicily, we can explore the  town with its picturesque harbour and attractive houses. You can visit the cliff-top citadel with its interesting museum, explore the island’s beaches or snorkel in the crystal clear waters. There is also the chance for us to enjoy island hopping as we take the ferry to the nearby island of Vulcano, known for its mud baths.

Mount Etna's striking landscape

Arguably the most impressive feature of Sicily is Mount Etna, the highest volcano in Europe at 3350m. Parts of the area have been preserved for wildlife to flourish, while others are accessible to visitors, giving us the chance to explore the intriguing volcanic landscape and craters.

We also visit the Gola d'Alcantara gorge, an impressive natural feature with one of the few rivers in Sicily that has water all year round. Here we can take a dip or walk along the river bank and enjoy the scenery.

Ancient Syracuse

Our visits also take us to Syracuse, a city that rivalled Athens for prestige and power in the ancient world. Intriguing remnants of this period can be found throughout the city, including the Neapolis Park with its impressive Greek Theatre, carved out of the rock. On the atmospheric island of Ortigia you can wander through the winding streets, explore the shops, or relax in an Italian café.

Elegant Noto

On the same excursion we also have the chance to explore the town of Noto, which was elegantly redesigned following the major earthquake that shook Sicily in the seventeenth century. These buildings have been carefully restored in recent years to create an attractive town for the visitor to enjoy.

After the day's activity, each evening we will have an opportunity to meet together for a helpful Bible talk.
