For those wanting an active break, a series of signposted walks take you to beautiful vistas above the lake. At the Vintgar gorge, a 1600m board walk takes you past vertical rocks and rapids to a 16-metre high waterfall.
Bikes are available for hire, as well as kayaks and paddle boards on the lake. Local companies also offer activities such as gorge walking and parascending. After all that activity, no trip would be complete without tasting the legendary dessert which is the Bled cream cake!
Our optional package of three excursions includes Ljubljana, Postojna Caves and Lake Bohinj. The capital city, Ljubljana, is small and pretty, easy to get around, and full of surprises. It offers rich tradition, youthful vibrancy, and numerous green spaces. Ljubljana has a medieval city centre with a castle and beautiful Baroque buildings. Picturesque bridges across the River Ljubljanica and the vast Tivoli Park, stretching into the pedestrianised city centre, make up the mosaic of the city.
The Postojna Caves are an amazing natural site - perhaps the most impressive public caves in Europe. They are a fantastic web of tunnels and galleries, with an astonishing diversity of Karst features. As the only cave system that can be accessed using an underground train, its easy access makes it the perfect place to explore. We travel for 2km on the cave train before continuing the tour on foot.
We also visit the striking Predjama castle, which was built in the mouth of the cave, high up in a cliff face. Its intriguing history includes a secret passage which enabled the inhabitants to repeatedly replenish their supplies, to the confusion of their attackers.
Lake Bohinj is a large glacial lake in one of the oldest national parks in Europe. We can hike to the Savica Waterfall, take a cable car ride, or relax by the lakeside with a coffee.
After each day’s activity we meet together to hear an inspiring Bible talk. Join us this summer to explore a hidden gem at the heart of Europe.
