Within the local area, we can explore Melrose Abbey, as well as Abbotsford House, the former home of Sir Walter Scott. The local shops offer plenty of Scottish shortbread and other local crafts.
On the way from Melrose to Harrogate, we will visit Alnwick in Northumberland for a chance to visit its impressive castle and gardens or explore the shops.
Our coach will be taking us on an optional package of excursions, including Edinburgh just 33 miles away from the hotel. The majestic capital city of Scotland is full of impressive sights waiting to be discovered.
We also explore the attractive countryside in the Scottish borders including the town of Jedburgh with its colourful buildings in the Market Place and riverside walks.We spend our final two evenings in the three-star Cairn Hotel in the beautiful town of Harrogate, which developed as a spa destination in the 18th century. Why not book a visit to the Turkish Baths or enjoy an afternoon tea amongst the tradition and grandeur of Betty's cafe?
The remarkable World Heritage Site at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal displays the ruins and cloisters against a beautiful landscaped background at this National Trust site (entrance payable locally. Free for National Trust members).

There are three meeting points available for this holiday: Otford in Kent, Peterborough Services and Harrogate train station.
For those meeting in Harrogate, we will arrange for a taxi to take you from Harrogate train station to a service station to meet the coach on its way to Scotland. The coach will return to Harrogate at the end of the holiday.
