New! Discover the Best of West Norway’s Most Popular Ski Area

We’re excited to introduce Myrkdalen, a snow-sure ski resort nestled in the dramatic mountain scenery of western Norway. A favourite among Bergen locals, Myrkdalen offers an unspoilt alpine experience with reliable snow, uncrowded slopes, and warm Scandinavian hospitality.

Whether you're new to skiing or an experienced enthusiast, Myrkdalen is the perfect setting for an Oak Hall week of adventure, refreshment, and great friendships.

Skiing for All – From First Tracks to Fresh Powder

Myrkdalen boasts 40km of groomed pistes, with an excellent range of terrain for all levels:

  • Beginners are especially well catered for, with one of the best beginner areas we've seen—ideal for those just starting out or building confidence.
  • Intermediate and advanced skiers will enjoy a mix of wide cruisers, tree-lined trails, and opportunities for off-piste exploration.
  • For those seeking something different, there’s the chance to try cross-country skiing, a classic Norwegian experience.
  • A small night skiing area adds a unique twist to your week, offering the chance to ski under the lights on select evenings.

Lift passes are reasonably priced, and there is a local ski hire centre right in the resort. We’ll be bringing our own friendly Oak Hall instructors, so you’ll be in good hands whether you’re clipping into skis for the first time or refining your technique.

A Beautiful Setting in the Fjord Region

Located just inland from Norway’s famous fjords, Myrkdalen is known for its natural beauty, open skies, and quiet trails. On clear nights, there's even the chance to see the Northern Lights dancing overhead—an unforgettable bonus if conditions are right.

Despite its popularity among Norwegians, the resort offers a refreshing sense of escape and exhilaration.

Our Welcoming Mountain Lodge at Helgatun Fjellpensjonat

Our base for the week is Helgatun Fjellpensjonat, a welcoming mountain lodge run by local Christians, situated right on the slopes for ski-in, ski-out convenience. The lodge offers a variety of comfortable rooms.

We will enjoy full board throughout the week, beginning each day with a hearty Norwegian breakfast, offering a selection of fresh breads, cheeses, cereals, and other traditional fare to fuel a full day on the slopes. In the evenings, a wholesome, home-cooked dinner is served, providing a warm and satisfying end to each day. For lunch, guests prepare their own packed meals each morning from a range of ingredients provided—perfect for enjoying on the mountain or back at the accommodation during a midday break.

A choice of comfortable rooms

Accommodation at our mountain centre offers two options. Superior rooms are located in the main building, where you will also find the dining room, lounge, sports hall, and space for our evening events. These rooms are all ensuite and part of a recently renovated interior, offering a high standard of comfort and convenience. Just a short walk away—less than a minute—the standard rooms are situated in an annexe building. These rooms are also ensuite and provide a simple, welcoming space ideal for a good night’s rest after a full day on the slopes.

Myrkdalen Village

After our Oak Hall evening meeting, some nights we will relax in the comfortable mountain centre. The spacious lounge is perfect for chatting with friends or enjoying a board game together. There's also a sports hall for those who fancy even more action! On other evenings, we’ll head into nearby Myrkdalen village for ten-pin bowling or to visit a cafe. We might take a stroll under the stars along the picturesque trails that run past our mountain lodge. Myrkdalen is a quiet and peaceful place with everything we need for a fantastic week on the snow is right at our doorstep.

Fly from London to Bergen or Travel Independently

We will be flying from London to Bergen, followed by a scenic coach transfer through the fjords and into the mountains. For those who prefer to travel independently, there is a car park at the resort, but please note: Myrkdalen is not easily accessible by public transport.

More Than Just a Ski Trip

As with every Oak Hall expedition, the week will be filled with shared experiences, good conversation, new friendships, and times of spiritual encouragement. Whether it’s a reflective walk under the stars, lively conversation over dinner, or thought-provoking Bible talks in the evening, Myrkdalen offers the space and setting for a wonderful winter break.

Independent Travel

You can select to travel independently during the booking process (NB we are unable to book one way flights or change the date of travel).

Click on 'View/Book' above to see the independent discount. The cost for the optional airport transfer is shown later in the booking process.

The airport transfer is booked to coincide with the group flights. Please note that the driver would not be able to wait if you miss the transfer on the first day. We would suggest booking a flight that arrives at least 2 hours before the group flight in case of any delays to your flight.

On the last day, please book a flight which departs after the group flight if you wish to use the airport transfer.

If you are travelling independently but someone else in your party will use the group flights, please make separate bookings.

If there are any changes to the holiday, we would not be able to cover the cost of changes to your independent flights. We would therefore recommend booking fully flexible tickets or joining the holiday using our flights.
